Segundo o press release, os Culatra foram "provavelmente a primeira banda portuguesa assumidamente gótica". Com actividade entre 1985 e 1992, nunca chegaram a gravar um disco. Esta colectânea, pela Pós-80's, reúne "os registos raros e inéditos do material gravado entre 1985-1989, provenientes de uma maquete, ensaios e um tema ao vivo no RRV". Não tenho qualquer lembrança dos Culatra (o que não significa que nunca tenha ouvido falar deles). Estou impressionada com a qualidade desta banda de Lisboa que merecia mais reconhecimento, e lamento que tenham acabado sem deixar discografia. A diferença que o Bandcamp teria feito naquela altura! Nestes registos, finalmente trazidos à luz do dia em 2026, encontro influências do melhor da época: Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy e outras referências pós-punk incontornáveis. Este é o som que eu recordo do Rock Rendez Vous. A qualidade das gravações é que é fraquinha, como seria de esperar de ensaios, maquetes e música ao vivo. Para descobrir agora no Bandcamp, já que esta música esperou tanto tempo entre sombras e fantasmas.
According to the press release, Culatra were "probably the first explicitly Portuguese goth band". Even though they were active between 1985 and 1992, a record was never released. This compilation by the Pós-80's label brings together "rare and unreleased recordings from 1985 to 1989, taken from demos, rehearsals, and a live track at the RRV [Rock Rendez Vous]". I have no recollection of Culatra (which doesn't mean I've never heard of them). I'm impressed by the quality of this Lisbon band, which deserved more recognition, and I regret that they disbanded without leaving a discography. The difference Bandcamp would have made back then! In these recordings, finally brought to light in 2026, I find influences from the best of the era: Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, and other inescapable post-punk references. This is the sound I remember from Rock Rendez Vous. The recording quality is weak, as one would expect from rehearsals, demos and live music. After waiting so long amidst shadows and ghosts, Culatra’s music can finally be discovered on Bandcamp.
Há alguns anos que tenho feito esta lista mentalmente, mas, em 2025, para não chegar ao fim do ano e não me lembrar de nada, fui mais esperta e comecei a tomar nota de potenciais canções preferidas desde Janeiro. A meio do ano apercebi-me de que devia também ter anotado lançamentos relevantes, aqueles que até podem não incluir uma das minhas canções preferidas mas que merecem atenção e audição. Este ano recebi uma média de 10 lançamentos por dia nas áreas do gótico, post-punk, darkwave e afins, o que dá uma brutalidade de cerca de 3600 álbuns, singles, EPs e remixes, e ouvi tudo, em muitos casos mais do que uma vez. Mas acontece que sou muito esquisita e selectiva, o que também significa que estas escolhas são, na minha opinião, o melhor do melhor. Esta é uma lista de canções preferidas de 2025 unicamente segundo o meu gosto pessoal. Se falhou alguma coisa importante, é possível que eu não esteja na mailing list. For several years now I've been making this list mentally, but, in 2025, I got smarter and I've written down potential favourite songs since January, so I wouldn't forget all about them by the end of the year. Midway through the year, I realised that I should have also noted down relevant releases, the kind that may not include any of my favourite songs but that do deserve attention and a listen. This year I received an average of 10 releases a day in the goth, post-punk, darkwave and similar genres, which amounts to a brutality of 3600 or so albums, singles, EPs and remixes, and I've listened to everything, in many cases more than once. The thing is, I’m very picky and selective, which means these choices are, in my opinion, the best of the best. This is a list of my favourite songs of 2025, based solely on my personal taste. If I've missed anything important, it's very possible that I'm not on that mailing list. Please let me know in the comments.

* É muito difícil escolher lançamentos de The Red Moon Macabre porque o projecto tem sido tão prolífico que eu perdi a conta por volta dos 20 álbuns em 3 anos (mas já vai em mais). Tentando ser justa, escolhi uma canção de Janeiro e outra de Novembro. Aproveito para destacar o álbum "Shelley's Monster" (que inclui "Carmilla"), uma homenagem em rock gótico à literatura de terror do século XIX. Está aqui quase tudo: Carmilla, Frankenstein, a Mulher de Branco, Jekyll And Hyde, Varney, Dorian Gray (Drácula não precisa de estar porque The Red Moon Macabre já lhe dedicou vários temas).
* It's very difficult to choose releases from The Red Moon Macabre because the project has been so prolific that I've lost count around the 20 albums in 3 years (but meanwhile it became a lot more). In an attempt to be fair, I chose one song from January and another from November. I'll take this opportunity to highlight the album "Shelley's Monster" (which includes "Carmilla"), a goth rock homage to 19th century horror literature. Almost everything is here: Carmilla, Frankenstein, the Woman in White, Jekyll and Hyde, Varney, Dorian Gray (no need to include Dracula since The Red Moon Macabre already have several songs about him).
